Here is a short message from Huaraz where I am now.
Since my last message from Huanchaco I spent thursday sight-seeing in the Chiclao area 3 hours drive north of Trujill. There I went on a tour to see some ancient burial temples from the Sipan culture and to a museum which displayed the biggest burial treasure found in South America. It was quite impressive but it was a long day because I had to get up at 5 to catch the bus there and I did not get back until 23:00. It was fun though also because my tour included a group from a peruvian engineering conference and the tour was in Spanish so I got to practice a bit. Yesterday I was back in Huanchaco where I had surfing lessons in the morning. After the lessons I didnot think that it was very difficult. However, when I returned topractice in the afternoon I found that it isa lot harder whenyou dodnot have an instructor to push you when you catch the wave and to tell you where to stand in the water and which waves to catch. I did manage to ride a few waves on my ownas well, so I am now a surfer . Maybe I can get to surf a bit more in Brazil.
After the surfing I caught the night bus to the mountains and arrived in Huaraz at 3000 m in the morning. I joined with a Suiss guy in finding a hostel and before we knewit we had both a hostel and 5 days trekking program booked. Today was the first day where we just did an easy walk of an hour or so while adapting to the height. We finished of with an hour in a thermal bath. However the bath was not really hot enough and not so nice. So I will have to find a better place for next time.
Tomorrow morning at 6 am we go on a 4 day trek around one of the highest peaks in the Andes together with two germans so we will be 4 guys, a guide/cook and a donkey with driver. That will be fun.
