Good Morning Vietnam..........
A big Hello from Nam......Hope everyone is well and happy!
Since i last left you we have done lots, we fully embraced the crazzyness of Saigon, still cant get my head round how many motorbikes and mopeds there are here, crossing the street is a truelly memorable experience, they should be selling life insurance on the roadside, as is v scary and dangerous indeed! The general rule thou is u just walk out confidently and keep the same pace, and they will avoid u! thats the theory anyway! as for trffic lights they dont seem to pay much attention to these......definatly fun and games, esp at rush hr! apparently there are 8 million people living in Saigon, and there are 6 million bikes.......
So let me break Ho Chi Minh down for you, or Saigon as most people call it. We met 2 people on the bus from Phnom Penh called Jonathan (South African) and Ina (German) and have basically been travelling with them since! Weall went and visited the Cu Chi tunnels and the war museum together....which was incredible seeing the complex, small tight tunnels these guys dug in the war to use both as a fighting base and to live during the 17 years of the war! We even experienced the tunnels ourselves, but im telling u i think somehow i wouldnt have lasted long, there not exactly built for a lanky person like me! Worryingly the tunnel we tried, had even been widened for westerners, and i struggled to even move at all!
After a few days in Saigon we decided to catch the over night train to Nha Trang.....our first beach! This nice seaside town was just my cup of tea.....spent days on the beach and afternoons watching the sun go down, whilst watching the kids play beach soccer......the kids out here are so friendly they love to come over and play with you,or talk to u......can u imagine that ever happening in England??!!! the parents dont mind who they speak too!
anyway on to a funny story to wake u up from this long blog....
After partying till 4am one night, i ended up walking homealone, which was fine, untill 5 vietnamese girls came out of no where and literally pushed me against the wall, touching me asking if i wanted 'boom boom'.....caught up in the whole excitement of the experience i didnt realise they also went through my pockets and stole my cash....luckily only bout 8 quids worth and was just cash.....so glad i listened to jonathan's advice bout just take cash out with u! Anyway they soon run away, and i had a good laugh so all is good! Following day hit the mud baths and hot springs to chill out, spent far to long there, felt like a big ass prune when i left!
After Nha Trang we hit Hii An (after 11hr sleeper bus) which is a picturesque quaint seaside fishing town.....have really enjoyed it here, but we are about to catch the 17hr sleeper train up to Hanoi, for our last 5 days in Vietnam....Really like this country, the people are so much friendlier than in Cambodia..much better food aswell.....Dad - u would love it, fish with everything!
Now those of u cooler enough to leave me msgs, u will now be rewarded!
Stu, Jon: hope your keeping the Lunges strong for me.....keep team Take That undercontrol.....dont want a split, thou the reunion is always good few yrs later!
Sports Centre team: Glad to hear everything is going well, good job Martin keep up the good work of chatting the mums up on the phones, keep them sweet so they kids stay on the courses!
Matt and Han: Great tips guys, not sure bout number 2 thou - 'dont talk to strangers' i think i would struggle if i had to talk to just Jamie! Everyone out here is a stranger!
Ashwina: Appologies, no emotional goodbye, but an emotional arrival will surely make ammends!
Boy Blue: Appologies bout, reading this back bringing it all back - surely that a good thing thou, memories are there to cherish! plus, get used to it.....when i come back your ot gonna be able to shut me up! As gyms arelimited out here, your gonna have to run team tricep by yourself....'i dont no how to put this, but im kind of a big deal' thats just gonna have to get the job done from now!
As for those that have left nothing, take a moment to bow your head in shame....
Miss you all xx
