Sámara, Costa Rica
5 am we awake, pick up our bags and miss the bus by 5 min. It's alright, we're not used to paying for them so far, so we get back onto the ray (hitch hike) and it so happens that it's an empty american-style school bus that picks us up. We catch a connecting bus in Liberia to the Nicoya Peninsula, west. The 2h30 was literally paradise to the eyes! The climate got much more tropical, the side of the road was hugged by modest colorful houses with chickens at their entrance, trees crying their mangoes and quantities of horses and cows - animals that seem to be in higher numbers than the Costa Rican population _ This country is simply beautiful, beautiful and fine - happy. We stopped half way in Nicoya, a biggish town by Costa Rican standards for a typical breakfast: orden de maduro con queso (fried bananas and cheese) - good.
However, the arrival in Samara, a small town on the beach, was just heaven. Imagine one of those magazine pictures with sand all around dotted with coconut trees, limited on one side by the Pacific ocean full of surfers at high tide and empty at the low, then bordered on the other side by the sweet local tow, slightly hippyish with little shacks and bars everywhere. The tourists are here but in small numbers and none seem to disturbs the peacefulness and culture of the area.
After a warm swim we met Cathy, a lovely english women, relaxed by her life over here, who gave us a yoga lesson on the beach. The first time we opened our eyes during the class, we were facing the beautiful sight of all the Costa Rican surfers, the second time, only a few swimmers left and finally, a sun going down and the sea was ours.
That night we camped on the beach shaded by a palm tree.
