I'm home!!
Sorry I haven't updated for a while, I've been so busy catching up with people.
On my last day of work (Wed 5th), I was Scrooge McDuck in Adventureland. Not the most amazing last day but it was okay. I was mobbed a lot for my first few sets, so I attempted a new method - stamping around the mob to make them back away, and then going back to my place. They would either stay back and get the message, or just edge forward again (usually the latter because they were nearly all Spanish as they celebrate their Christmas on the 5th and 6th of Jan). If they kept coming forward I turned around to face the wall and folded my arms and tapped my foot. As I was Scrooge I could get away with it! I just kept looking over my shoulder until they had back away again. I then pointed at them all and gestured for them to put their hands up if they wanted to meet me, which worked sometimes. I then stroked my chin like I was thinking about who to pick and gestured for a guest to come over. This made the guests realise that I was going to choose who I saw, not the other way round. I had to do it every five minutes though as the guests obviously kept changing.
My very last set was in the dark and really empty, I just animated on my own but nobody was around. The only people that spoke to me were English, and came up to me and said 'Donald Duck!' so I shook my head, 'Daffy Duck!' (not even Disney) so I shook my head again, 'Grandpa Duck!' and again I shook my head. 'Anyway, Duck', he said, 'which way is it to the Indiana Jones ride?'. They didn't even want a picture haha.
After work I gave back my kit and make up and got them signed off - it really felt real that I was leaving then.
That evening I went round to Scouse's and Bo's flat with a few of the girls, and we ate party food and played games and chatted. It was a really lovely and funny evening, and gave me an excuse to put off packing!
On Thursday I met some friends to make the most of our last day in the park and with Cast Member discount. We did some last minute shopping in the Disney Vllage - I bought myself the fluffy Minnie Mouse blanket I had been eyeing up since I got there. We decided on the bus to go to Cafe Mickey, so seven of us had lunch there. It was quite expensive but really nice and a a few characters came and saw us too! After that was park time! The queues had gone down dramatically which was good, and on some of the more popular rides we showed our IDs and made a sad face saying that it was our last day, and we were allowed into the Fastrack entrance. We managed to go on Crush's Coaster, Tower of Terror, Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan's Flight, and the Mad Hatter's Teacups in about 4 or 5 hours, which is quite good for an afternoon in the parks! After the Teacups in Fantasyland, we headed to EPC to get our IDs cut, which was quite a sad moment!
We got back to Pleiades at about 8pm, and I got ready to go out. We did some drinking at Kelly and Katie's and left at 11ish to go to L'Agape in Val d. About 200 peoples' contracts were ending that day, and everyone was out so it was really nice to say bye to everyone. I got quite drunk but had a really good night!
The next morning I felt really sick, and as soon as my roommate had left for work I actually was sick! My friend Lucie who was getting my train had already checked out so she came over whilst I packed my stuff and cleaned my room. She found it quite funny to watch because I kept getting the alcohol sweats and having to have lie downs - I think it took about double the amount of time for me to pack! A guy from reception came to check my room and I handed in my keys. We lugged our cases to the bus stop and went to Disney. Loads more people got on the bus at La Boiserie (the other housing block), so the bus was literally full of suitcases. We were allowed to leave our cases at the Disneyland Hotel for free for the day (it was about 2pm when we got to Disney but our train was at 7.37pm), but we decided to try our luck and asked at the Disney Express luggage desk which is right next to Eurostar check in. The team leader said that as it is New Year he would make an exception for us which was a result. We went for a hangover McDonald's in the Disney Village, and then went to Cash Control to collect our housing deposits. We then watched the new DOUD as the park had been 'de-Christmassed' so all traces of Christmas had been removed from the park. Because they are resurfacing Fantasyland, the parade route has changed, some of the floats have been removed and there are some performers doing a cheesy dance at the beginning. The floats don't have their own themed music anymore either, it is all to the 'Just Like We Dreamed It' song. It's not that great to be honest but it is only until March at least.
We had one last ride on Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast and then headed to the station where loads of us got the train home. It was luckily on time and now I'm back!
I've unpacked and went out last night to Canterbury with my friends and had a really good night. Can't believe Disney is all over and a week on Thursday I'll be flying to Bangkok! It was an amazing experience which I'm really glad I did - now time to focus on getting ready for travelling!
I had a really nice email from a girl in Belgium who said she had come across my blog by chance and really enjoys reading it - I had no idea anybody but my family were reading it so it's really nice to know that people are enjoying it. I'd be really grateful if people could leave the occasional comment or message on the message board whilst I'm away next just so I know I'm not writing to nobody! It'd be nice to have a record of who was interested as well!
I'm going to try and shorten my entries whilst I'm away as I'll probably be paying for internet. I'd rather do lots of short entries than less long ones.
Hope you've enjoyed reading about my time at Disney, and hopefully you'll keep reading as I try and travel the world on a shoestring!
