We travelled right through the heart of the Pilbara today (Red Dog country for anyone who has seen the movie) from near Karratha to Karijini national park which is near Tom Price. We used the Rio Tinto access road and to obtain a permit we needed to watch a 20 min DVD about safety. It is beautiful country, with the red iron ore hills contrasting with the yellow spinifex grass. We are in wildflower season now and have seen plenty of Sturt Desert Peas. It was a long drive today and we are still scratching our sandfly bites so we were glad to arrive at Karijini national park late this afternoon.
