We spent the morning on the beach, the fantastic thing about Coral Bay is that you are able to snorkel straight off the beach rather than have to swim out. So it is perfect for the kids.
Then as we were packing up the camper we got talking to an old timer who told us about a great beach fishing spot around the pylons of the old jetty. So on our way out of town we thought we would give it a go. There was one other guy fishing there so we watched him pull in a few trevally before we raced back to the car to get our rods. We caught 5 trevally (everyone caught one) which were all keepers so at last we had freshly caught fish for dinner. Taylor fishing tally Pippy 4, Kate 3, Geoff 3 (plus a seagull which he hooked through the beak), Rowena 2, Benjie 1.
We drove to a free camp called Bush Bay about 40kms south of Carnarvon. We arrived about 6pm and set up camp. The wind strength had been increasing during the day and our free camp was right on an unprotected beach. Our camper has soft canvas walls so it started to balloon as the wind got stronger. The kids went to sleep (not sure how as the wind was howling and everything in the camper was rattling) and I started getting more worried. At 1030pm I convinced Geoff to evacuate. We woke the kids and put them in the car while we desperately packed up the camper. Then we drove a further 40kms down the road and inland where we found another free camp which was out of the wind. We finally got to sleep about midnight but relieved we were safe out of the wind. Geoff of course thinks I over reacted!!
