After saying goodbye to everyone leaving from Livingstone, those of us heading to Botswana and beyond boarded the truck for the drive to the Botswana border and then Chobe River for a river cruise. Our uneventful border crossing was ruined by some thieves thinking it was their lucky day when they jumped on the truck whilst it crossed on the ferry; pedestrians had to go on a separate ferry. A few people had their iPods, cameras, and money stolen, but I was fortunate enough to have put my things in the lockers beneath our seats. Easy to say they should have done the same in hindsight, but it doesn't bring the items back.
Those who had had things stolen made their way to the police station whilst those of us who weren't affected went on the river cruise on the Chobe River. There were quite a few other people on the boat; they'd thought ahead and brought drinks and ice along with them. We saw the usual elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and buffalo on the cruise, it's quite awful that we've become complacent regarding these magnificent animals, but six weeks of safaris might be a little too much for anyone.
