Phuket is Thailand's largest island and apparently the most touristy place in Thailand too. What we've noticed so far is that there doesn't seem to be any middle ground here. Stuff is either really cheap and a bit dodgy or expensive and nice. There are no standard hotels like we are used to, there is either cheap hostels or expensive luxury hotels. (Not that we mind hostels). Having said all this we had a lovely meal on our first full night in Phuket in Karon Bay...

We are finally here in Thailand, currently finishing breakfast in the hostel. The journey here seemed to take forever, starting with matt and I almost missing our coach to heathrow (we thought it just wouldn't be as fun if it all went smoothly). The flight was good barring the circling we had to do whilst the king of Thailand farted about taking off. Matt even bumped into two randomers also from the new forest... small world! As our departure date came ever nearer, we were keeping a watchful eye on various news sites monitoring the flood situation in Bangkok. Although international flights have not yet been affected, we started to think that maybe we didn't want to be in a city with a population of 12 million when everyone is trying to get out. Qantas were offering re-routing to Singapore or Hong Kong so we decided to go to Singapore instead. Although this put paid to the River Kwai...

Today's been an exciting day! First we had a quick test pack of the bags, making a list of everything we still need to get (everyone loves a good list). Then a quick trip to the local shop to buy dirt cheap adaptors and the like (which probably won't work). And now, setting up the travel blog for folks back home to follow our footsteps!
