Bula from Fiji once again!!
Well what can I say? We love it here! The weather is still perfect (much less sweatworthy than than Asia) and the people are still mega friendly :)...the hotel we're at is amazin, we almost dont want to leave. though sayin that, you know us, we've still had a few hurdles to tackle before getting here...
In fact, that island we were telling you about (the one that we booked with that dodgy 'travel agent') turned out to be pretty shocking. When we first got there they put us into a dorm (despite paying for a private room). We heard a knock at the door about 10 minutes later and a just-got-out-of-the-shower-and-donning-only-a-tshirt-over-his-particulars-dave answered the door to be asked by one of the managers if they could put another 4 lads in with us. The answer was a very awkward 'erm'...we were pleased to be removed and put into a private room shortly afterwards. Now...this private room was a literally just a hut...with a bed...and nothing else. We quickly learned that there were bed bugs, and there was no electricity all through the day until they turned the generator on at 7pm (turned swiftly back off at 1am...brilliant). No internet, no atm, no tv...Like living in the stone age. Now the real thing that took the p*ss what that we were told that all meals were included. These 'meals' consisted of bread, sausages and tea for breakfast, bread, rice, sausages for dinner, and bread, rice, sausages and noodles for tea. and if you were even so much as five minutes late you'd be lucky to get some bread, the people there were like vultures. Dave constantly referred to one of the girls as 'Big Dinners', always frist in line and piled high plate.
By the end of the first day I was more than ready to go back to the mainland...but we hadn't quite learned our lesson and had booked 3 nights. 3 nights (and days) with b***** all to do! Although...we did have a walk over to the other side of the island and it was b-e-a-udiful! There was absolutly noone there, soft sand and crystal clear waters. That was a good day :).
When we got back to the mainland we decided to head straight to where we are now (Pacific Harbour). Still not learning our lesson we booked 5 nights in a hotel which we soon learned looked like a blackpool throwback, sporting granny sheets and all. We headed for tea in another hotel and fell in love with it! So we had a bit of a ruckuss with the other hotel manager (who refused to give us more than half of our money back...despite the fact that we hadnt even stayed a night in his poo hotel!) Dave fought our corner though and ended up gettin all the money back so we uped sticks and moved to the Pearl where we are now.
The last few days have been quite tough as we have been doing our PADI open water diver course and its felt abit like a physics lesson. The first dive I couldn't even shuffle in my flippers and David had his weights all wrong and was swimming on his side. Practically dive masters now though and Dave's looking forward to doing a shark feeding dive tomorrow.
We had to change our flights because (our luck as usual), the place that we were doing the course got closed down by the military (we have no idea why!) and we couldn't get in there for the day (and were told it might be a few days before they were back up and running). All done now though and we are officially certified divers :).
Tonight was Fiji night in the hotel, and they had an amzing buffet on and entertainment in the form of Fijian warrior dancers (i drooled...alot!).
Nothing much else to report except we will now be here until the 15th. Hoping to do a skydive with the extra time :).
Lots of love
Sheree and David
