Yesterday we decided to hire bikes and cycle the 7km to a place called the Blue Lagoon. The cycle ride was interesting to say the least as it was less of a road and more of a rocky path, which would have been ok except that this made it really hard work and the temperature had gotten over 30 degrees. We eventually made it to the lagoon however and it was fantastic! It was some of the bluest water I have ever seen and had a good selection of rope swings and trees to jump out of! As more people turned up it turned into areal party atmosphere and we all had a great time (Check out my attempted backflip in the picture).
Today we left Vang Vieng and got a 4 hour mini bus down to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The bus was pretty hairy at points but we all made it in 1 piece. We checked into our hostel and both enjoyed very long showers as the humidity has shot up meaning we are drenched in sweat the whole time!
Laos used to be run by the French and Vientiane is supposed to have some fantastic cheap French restaurants so we set out looking for one. Eventually we picked one and we could not of been happier with the food! 12 massive mussels and a large slab of salmon for next to no money. It is going to be a shock money wise when we get back to the UK.
After dinner we took a stroll through the local night market and then headed for home. The plan tomorrow is to explore the city some more and visit a few of the national museums!
