Si around the world!!
Wow its been ages since i wrote on here!!
Ok lets see. I was in Brisbane last i wrote on here, having just been to Steve Irwins brilliant zoo. From there I travelled down to Sydney stopping off along the way at Surfers Paradise and Byron Bay. There isnt a great deal at Surfers for the traveller such as myself, but im glad i checked it out. I kinda wanna live there just so my address can be Surfers Paradise, it doesnt sound like a real place!
Byron Bay on the other hand was full of travellers, and has the fun chilled out vibe I've come to expect from places frequented by many travellers. Common activities include didgeridoo lessons, bush tucker walks, yoga, surfing, surfing WITH yoga...! Im afraid I never got around to trying the latter but it sounded fun all the same. Unfortunately my few days in Byron were rather strongly affected by the ridiculously heavy torrential rain which demotivated me from getting out of bed, let alone out of my hostel seeing as I had nothing waterproof! T-shirts and flip-flops may have served me well in Thailand, not so here. The great news is that those of you in England cant keep telling me how wonderful ur summer has been! Everyone i meet here tells me how brilliant it looks in England! Meanwhile I've been stocking up on jumpers! The even better news is that I'll prob be back home just in time for winter....
From Byron it was a 14 hour over night bus journey of delight to Sydney, although of course I consider myself a hardened veteran when it comes to long bus rides these days. I laugh in the face of them now, although i laughed rather less when 5 mins into our first film the tv system on the coach broke...
But alas I made it. I made it on thurs morning at 10am determined to go in search of work and by the afternoon I'd had 2 temp job offers one of whic I accepted starting at 8am the following morning! Thats determination for u! I had 2 offers, one was a normal office admin role. The other, stocking fridges with milk. I chose the latter and it was an inspired choice! After filling the office fridges with milk i had nothing to do all day other than sit back, relax, and watch glorious daytime TV! It was uni all over again! But this time with milk!
Unfortunately that only lasted a week, and so i said goodbye to wheel of fortune, au revoir to Dr. Phil, Oprah and Scrubs, and farewell to Judge Judy. The jobs that followed were admin at Westpac the bank, and my current role which is mainly boring filing. But its adding $s to the travel fund!
Whats also helping is staying with the family! For those who dont know I have my grandma here, 4 aunties and their husbands, and 8 cousins, the offsprings of those aforementioned aunties and husbands! With typical Egyptian hospitality, they wont let me pay for anything while im here! They've been really good and it is a welcomed changed from shared bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens, and eating noodles and tuna for all my meals! My cousins have also taken me to my first ever Rugby game, and last night we watched the 'mighty' socceroos take on the colussal power of the Kuwaitees! What a game! Ok, so i've seen better quality football in my local park, but it was fun nonetheless!
So thats it all pretty much up to date really. Stay in touch and take care of urselves! All the best
Si
PS- my last work placement picked up considerably on the last day. I hadnt mentioned, but its a company which markets and distributes certain brands of liquor! Well, after being treated to a shot of absolut peach vodka and a cocktail at 4.30 on friday afternoon, I mentioned that I hadnt heard of a lot of the brands of alcohol they sell... the marketing lady overheard and sent me home with 6 bottles and 2 cans of booze result! And in keeping with a theme of my trip to Aus, they also gave me a free Craig David CD! Dunno whats happened to the CD but the booze has been taken care of!
