After another horrendous day on the truck and being sick as ever, we jumped into jeeps and headed into the famous Serengeti National Park.On the way we drove past the Ngorongoro Crater which we will visit in a few days, it was one of the most spectacular sites I have ever seen.
We drove to the gates of the national park, right through the wildebeest migration, which was an amazing site to see.We were literally surrounded by them as far as the eye could see, all the way past the horizon. There would have easily been over one hundred thousand animals on the planes. We stopped for a rest at the entrance to the park and this baby wildebeest came up to investigate us, I walk right up to him and got almost close enough to pat him before he ran away.
We drove through the park passing many different animals on the way, we drove until we reached our bush camp.We set up the tents and made lunch before going out for another game drive. While we were on this game drive we saw a leopard up a tree, which was really cool as they are really difficult to spot, no pun intended.
That night we slept in the Serengeti with no fences and no protection from the animals.During the night, I could hear slow steady footsteps though the camp and lions roaring in the distance.I felt something brush against my tent and kind of sidle up to my back while I was trying to sleep. It was quite scary as I had no idea what kind of animal it was at all.
In the morning we got up early and went for more game drives.By far the highlight of our morning game drive was that we actually saw lions mating.Which actually looked kind of violent. We also saw a cape buffalo, which completed the big five for us all."Big Five High Five!"
We went back to camp and had lunch before going out on another game drive, on which we saw almost absolutely nothing. We did see monkeys with blue balls, which was really funny. We also saw two families of elephants towards the end and we drove right through the heard. One elephant stopped right in front of the jeep and was flapping his ears, which scared us a bit.Our driver stayed put and just said to us "Look! He says Jambo!" We all laughed.
