This morning I had the Kremlin tour with Helen booked for 10:30am, I managed to round my now sixteen passengers up and leave on time. I had decided to go on the Kremlin tour on the occasion (I usually don't) because it's spring and there are always beautiful flowers in blossom in the grounds at this time of year.
We arrived at the Kremlin and stored the bags people had brought, and Helen gave her usual tour. The churches of the Kremlin, looked amazing against the back drop of an amazing clear blue sky and with a foreground of colourful flowers.
Going into the churches gave us a reprieve from the heat and I just sat there while Helen did all the guiding and appreciated where I was. After the tour, we went for lunch in the big underground food court, I was still full from my enormous breakfast, as was John we both just had beers….me partly because they had Efes on tap, which for me is exciting.
After lunch most of the clients went out on Helen's city tour and I wandered around the city and ended up in the Gum centre and then another shopping centre hiding in Starbucks from the rain. I went back to the hotel and had dinner at the wooden pub in front of the metro station with Dane, Maria, Nat, Andrea, John, Bob, Ian and Robert. After dinner it was time to go back to the hotel to collect the luggage and then get the final night train to St Petersburg. As I was giving my briefing, Dan, one of the new comers, asked if it was possible to upgrade to a King bed on the night train. I laughed in his face as I thought he was kidding, but apparently not. What the hell are Tucan doing to me, giving me passengers like this?
I make my final passage though the Moscow metro with the group in tow and come out at Leningradsky station which is still being renovated, so I have to find another way in. The waiting room is closed so I have to go and manually look for our train on each platform as the waiting room is where the schedule board is. I find the train and walk the group all the way to the end to our carriage. I get everyone on board, this time I am finally in with the passengers, Andrea, Maria and John. We have a laugh opening the food boxes the rail company has given us, this climaxes at the point where John holds out a roll to me and says feel this, I give it a squeeze and then throw it at Andrea's head. Laughs all round. Dane and Nat come in and join us for a bit, Nat is fearful that our new Canadian friend who they have dubbed whitey, will smother her with a pillow during the night. He has already asked if the train has laundry facilities, is he kidding? Maybe he thinks the night train is operated by the Hilton group?
The train gets underway and at about midnight, everyone returns to their respective cabins for a quiet nights rest, or so we thought.
