It was a very early start this morning as I got up at 5:15 am had breakfast and then proceeded to heard my remaining three passengers to the station to get the train to Krakow, which I love and never seem to get enough time in.
We walked about twenty minutes with all our stuff to Kijowska tram station and then went one stop to the train station, we probably could have walked it, (well I could have walked it) but I didn't want to risk complaints. We boarded the train and settled in for our three and a half hour ride.
This train was much nicer than the one I had caught on the previous trip, we had our own compartment, complete with horrendously cold air conditioning which we spent the whole journey attempting to block up.
We reached Krakow and I successfully navigated us out of the maze like station, which always seems permanently under construction, as does everything in Poland. We got the tram and went three stops to Kazmirez, where Hotel Abel is located.
Refreshingly, we checked straight in, I love that about this part of the world. If there rooms are ready you can check in. There's none of this check in at 2pm crap, because that's the rules, like in St Petersburg. God I hate that hotel!
We immediately went out on the orientation walk. I walked the passengers around Wawel Castle and stopped for ice cream about half way. I had choc mint and whiskey flavour, it was all sorts of awesome! I walked them up to the Old Town Square and then into our local operators office, so that they could pay for their trip to the Salt mines that was leaving at 4pm. I then gave them an hour for lunch. I spent my free hour having lunch at a restaurant in the Medieval square. I ask, where else in the Europe could you eat in the main square for less that 5 Euros! The atmosphere was great and the food was amazing!
I then met back up with the passengers and escorted them to the tour bus which was leaving for the Salt Mines.
I took a leisurely stroll back to the hotel and the proceeded to work on my trip notes for the rest of the afternoon. I went out for dinner at the same pay by weight pub that Sara and I had visited. I had sausage, chicken with cheese in the middle, spinach and roast potatoes all 22 zloty, about 5 euros! After dinner I went to check out the club scene, I wanted to find a metal club. The closest I found was a hard rock karaoke bar, which was underground in some old tunnels, it was pretty cool, but as I didn't know anyone I didn't end up staying for long. I wish Tim was here!
On the way back to the hotel, a little Korean girl stopped me to ask me for directions. It was a bit late and she was clearly upset. She wanted to know how to get to Midowa tram stop, as this is the tram stop nearest to my hotel I knew exactly where it was and I offered to walk her there. I'm so lucky to meet you! She exclaimed. She kept apologizing the whole time, so I said, Next time I'm hopelessly lost in a strange city, I'd like to think someone would be nice enough to help me. To which she replied, If I ever find anyone lost in my home town I promise I will help them. That's the way, I said, Pay it forward. After my good deed for the evening was done, I retraced my steps back to the hotel and went off to bed.
