This morning we left our campsite and went to see the sites of Gonder. We started with the Castle complex of King Fasil, which was one of the more impressive castles I've seen. What a day….I think I need a holiday.The rain was pretty intense last night, so now all the dirt roads are mud roads.We got bogged a fair few times today.At one point we actually had to wait for a new road to be constructed until we could move on.We waited an hour and then the locals managed to get a digger in to remove the truck that was bogged in the mud in front of us.I remember watching the digger lift and push the truck out and thinking, this will not end ...

It's been a pretty chilled out day today. Five people set off on the overnight trek this morning and everyone else has gone for a five hour walk. I do not do trekking. Full days drive today, from Axum to Debark, the Gateway to the Simien Mountains. We arrived quite late and checked straight into our hotel.
