As Tim was still on his Mt Sinai climb this morning, Fiona and I decided to go to Ras Um Sed beach for the day. We got the hotel courtesy bus down to the beach and sat there with our sun loungers right in the water sunning ourselves for a bit.
Since I am going to be here for a week on my own, I decided to invest in a snorkel, mask and fins and check out the reef. The reef was amazing! Better than Tiran island, which we had paid to see. I was gutted I had not brought my underwater camera with me. I had no idea the reef was this good just off the beach. Then again, the guys at the tour shop, weren't about to say, "Don't bother with this, the reef is better off the beach."
I snorkeled for about an hour, watching all the colourful fish, who didn't even seem afraid of me and then went back for a sun bake and let Fiona have a go with the snorkel. I went back in and this time, saw a sting ray with glowing blue rings and a huge Lion fish, which are really rare and dangerous, lurking in a cave.
Fiona and I went back to the hotel, Tim was asleep and couldn't really be woken to get his Mt. Sinai story, so I went back to my room for a bit of a nap. I got up and had a shower and put on awesome shorts, jazz hat and my Hawaiian shirt, just as Tim rang and said, "Are you and jazz hat ready to go?"we were going to Na'ama Bay for a big night. I turned up at Tim and Fiona's door and Tim was wearing his Hawaiian shirt and the hat I got him in Ethiopia, and Fiona said, "What the hell? Do you two speak in code so you both end up dressed the same?"
We got a cab to Na'ama and had dinner at the Hard Rock Café, I had a really strong electric ice tea, which was bright blue. I also had an amazing steak, I haven't had a good steak for months and Tim took lots of pictures of me eating it and enjoying it. Apparently the look on my face was quite amusing.
We left the Hard Rock and went to a beach side pub with a long happy hour. I think Tim literally ordered two of every cocktail. I just sat there drinking cheap Jack Daniels and smoking Tim's cigars, good times. We watched the Paraguay vs Spain match and I went lamp window shopping half way through the game.
We left the pub after the game and went tat shopping. We walked past the tour shop where we has booked out Tiran Island trip and the guy in there has a bit of a crush on me and insists in coming out every time I walk past.I turned to Tim and in my drunken slur said, "Quick, try to look inconspicuous", to which Fiona gave me and Tim a scathing look and said, "You two have got to be kidding yourselves" in her Irish drawl. It was Fiona who saved me by pretending to engage me in an animated conversation as we past the shop.
We attempted not talking and seeing if the hasslers could guess where we were from, without us opening our mouths. They had no idea, it was so funny, we got Russian, Belgian, English, American, Spanish, French, German, but no Australian! We finished up with our window shopping and got a cab back to the hotel.
