Over the weekend we have made our way south going through Port Macquire where we stopped off for a few days in a great campsite situated on the beach. The weather was not great on Saturday so we headed off to a town called Timbertown. It's a re-inactment of a 1800's timber village. It was a bit bizzare to say the least but it does give you an insight into how the pioneers of that time lived and traded wood and other goods. After being educated for an hour or so we decided that we should go and watch "RocknRolla" the new Guy Ritchie film just to bring us back into the 21st Century.
The weather was still rubbish on the Sunday so we headed south again and spent a night at Forster-Tuncurry.
Yesterday we drove all of a few hundred k's throuhg the lakes and have now ended up in Port Stephens.
Yesterdays weather was better so we decided to book ourselves onto a Dolphin watching tour, we had seen the Whales but not the dolphins. There where no dolphin tours so we ended up on a whale tour. It was the best one hundred dollars (about twenty quid each) we've spent. We had 3hrs of whale and dolphin watching and it was something else. At one point we had a pod of at least 150 dolphins chasing the boat and jumping out of the water. Then we saw the humpback whales, they where within 30ft of the boat. Some of them put on a great display of breaching for us, which if they are that close to you is amazing. We followed them for a good few hours and where in complete ore of what we watched. Hopefully the pictures will give you an idea of what what we saw.
Tomorrow we are heading in-land to the Hunter Valley, one of the big wine regions of Australia. Of course we will sample a few reds and no doubt buy some!!!!!
