Hey Guys and gals!
I hope you havent all been worried whether I made it to Hong Kong safely or not, as i understand i have taken some time to post my first blog from abroad! Sorry for that! :-)
Well youll be interested to hear that my two flights with KingFisher airlines were very impressive! Comfy, clean, good leg room and friendly stewards. The movie selection wasnt bad either ;-)
After 10 hours and a very interesting curry (made for Indians, not the english) I arrived into Mumbai where i had an 11 hour connection. I made a friend and wasted time hanging around and was pleasantly suprised with the airport as i had heard so many bad reports.
Another 6 hour flight, the risk of a potentially fatal outcome after eating a entire chilli in my curry made for indians, and I arrived into Hong Kong airport! With possibly the longest walk of any airport from my gate to passport control, they decided after much deliberation to let me into their country.
The bus journey to my hostel was fantastic. Cheap, fast and with views of all the main attractions, I arrived for check in 3 hours before they allowed it. As I qued for the lift after deciding to have a look around the city, i met who was soon to become my hong kong buddy. Ingrid, from Melbourne Australia, and I, made our way into town on Hong Kongs underground, the MTR. As we walked around town we made our way to the worlds longest series of escalators. After seeing some places we doubt any tourist have seen before we made our way back to the hostel to check in and catch up on some sleep.
After oversleeping our meeting time by one and half hours i dashed downstairs to meet with Ingrid who had managed to get us an invite to a party onboard a private yatch to watch the fireworks and celebrate Chinas independance day. We joined our new friend to meet this boat in the harbour and duely enjoyed the display the chinese government could afford to entertain us with. We then joined our new friends to get a drink which turned out to be the only one of the trip so far. The bar specialised in bowls of peanuts still in their shells, and the floor was duely covered in a carpet of them.
That night i managed 3 hours sleep, taking the total up to 5 hours in three days. After lying in bed wide awake for 5 hours, i decided it wasnt going to get any better and packed my bag for the day. I made my way to Hung Hom train station in order to purchase my train tickets to Ha Noi, and crossed the harbour on the famous Star Ferry. After a long walk around Kowloon park and the streets of Kowloon i finally reached the train station and wasted an hour trying to find someone who could actually sell me some train tickets.
With most of the morning gone I decided to make my way to the South of Hong Kong island to take a look at the famous Stanley market, not very impressive i thought .
On my way back to the town centre i jumped off the bus half way and walked to "The Peak", the best view point of the city, for sunset which was beautfiul.
With a quick walk down the hill in order to meet ingrid on time for dinner, i joined her at a local vegeterian restaurant, after which i was well and truely ready for a good nights sleep.
Well, that is it for now. I have ran out of time on the computer and i am due to catch my train to Ha Noi in a couple of hours. The next update will come all the way from the capital of Vietnam, and i hope you have enjoyed reading this blog so far!
Take care for now and love to all :-) X

Dad & Mum It wasn't until I woke up this morning was I anxious to hear from you, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, but a quick, I've arrived, would be good please. Taff took Dad & me into that pub I remember it well, and in Stanley market with Lorraine on another visit, I nearly bought 4 fantastic oil paintings. Luckily for Dad by the time I decided to buy them the shop had closed. Have a safe journey onwards, keep in contact and enjoy every minute of your adventure. Much love from us both X X
Tosh Loving the blog Phil. Sounds like your having a great adventure already! Keep the news coming. Take care and enjoy yourself!
Sigrid thank you Philip for sharing your travel adventure with me. I don't think I will ever make it to this part of the world. I also let Hanna read it, she is already talking about travelling all around the world after her IB, mind you, maybe I should not let her read it as a mum, because it will make her want to travel all the more. Take care and enjoy every single day of your travel.
