ok firstly apologies for the picture vietnam looks nothing like this at all! But anyway!
So much has happened already and its only what day its only the 3rd day i really cant keep up. ok so first day we were in hanoi, in a government building which was completely deserted but still was brilliant we went to the old quarter where we walked around the massive lake! and then to celebrate we went to the city view bar that was three stories high, we went to a temple that was dedicated to confuscious that was pretty and if we thought our exams were hard the ones he set were mega! The old quarter was amazing and was divided into streets that sopld certain items so there were things like shoe street, mechanic street, postcard street was awesome. @ lunch i had my first noodles in vietnam in again an incredibly high and rickety building but they were the best noodles in the old quarter served with mint very yummy! in the evening me and kim braved a taxi journey back into the old quarter and had drinks in a bar lit my fairy lights of course atm all i am drinking is either water (in the day) or hanoi beer the rest of the time which is about 50p a bottle bigger than the bottles in the uk! ! ! ! the journey back to the hotel was an adventure to say the least the taxi drivers were determined to rip us off by rigging the meter butno worries me rory and kim managed to get them down to half the price hehe i mean it was only pennie if you think about it but i was not paying 140 000 for a taxi when earlier i had spent 60 000!even if it was a 20min journey! crossing the roads here is scary as, you just have to saunter slowly across the road hoping that people will miss u on their bikes its like playing chicken and i have never played chicken! ! !
the next day we went to viet tri, which was yesterday, we sort of just got used to our surroundings, the building we are in again is basic but amazin hot water and a flushing toilet, no one will believe im a backpacker! ! ! today though we went to a market and tried out some of our vietnamese that we have learnt which was often meet by blank stares or smiles!people seem to really appreciate it if u say hello to them in their own language! although i dont think i will ever get used to people staring @ us! we had an argument with a man about a phone charger which meant we had to run out of the store but kim, nadge and myself succesfully managed to barter later on!
we did have a bit of a horrific moment when we were sitting in a bar (are you noticing a reoccurring theme) and we thought we could see a dog being spit roasted, mortified we asked hoang our guide who told us his mum liked to make puppy soup in the winter! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! i didnt think they really ate it - luckily what we had seen was a pig phew!
ok its 6.00 ish here so definately time for a drink and some more eggs and rice!
