Hello Everyone!
A little update on the latest...Our last stop in Patagonia was in the marine reserv on the Penninsula of Valdes. We based ourselves in the beachresort of Puerto Madryn. The highlight was to go whalewatchng. Every year the Southern Right Whales use this bay to calf.We were extremly lucky, considiring it was end of season, to see 7 females each with a calf. They are enormous, females around 15 meters and the calfs are born 6 meters long and they weigh around 40 tons. That is quite a baby!!! The whales mostly float on the surface, they dont do much, very lacy conserving energy. They are curious animals and they come right up to the boat. They got their name because of that, they are the "right" whale to hunt. Very easy to kill, they dont even defend themselves. At the moment whale hunting is forbidden, but every year they vote on it. The Whales increased by 7% this last year. I hope they never start hunting them again, it was such an amazing experience to see them.
Next day we drove to another marine reserv and the largest coloni of Magellan penguines in South America. ¾ a million nesting penguines. The pictures will speak for themselves. They are the most hilarious animals I ve ever seen. Same afternoon we visited Phil's Welsh Heritage in the Welsh town of Gaiman. (A large group of Welsh people emigrated to this part of Patagoina in 1850) We went to a traditional TeaHouse! Phil gorged himself on cream tea (7 cups!!!!) scones and cakes. Again the photo tells the story!
Next night a long bus up to Buenos Aries. The slightly odd people of Argentina likes to play bus bingo...lets just say that Phil and me couldnt particpate cause they called out the numbers so fast, so by the time we translated the number we missed the next 5!. We never took the chance of getting embarressed by calling out Bingo and then being told off by having the completely wrong numbers...1st price was a bolttle of the bus companies own brand wine.... We had a 3 day city break in Buenos Aries. A lot of steak and vino!!!
We had a few days to spare. So decided to go through Uruguay. The city of Colonial De Sacramento was stunning, very old colonial town.We thought we easily could get on route again, but we were so wrong and ended up spending 27 hours travelling on busses to get up to the Iguaza falls in northern Argentina. One night Phil and I even had to travel on different buses, casue it was so sold out. Very amusing sitting waving through the window of the busses to each other.
The waterfalls of Iguaza was really spectacular!!!
