Last stop....and we are fed up with writing blogs...just as you are with reading them!
Just to recap before moving on to Japan. We spent a few days in an old fashioned Chinese city. That had survived the communist Cultural Revolution. It really felt like going back in time a few hundred years. It looked like a movie set. Traditional grey buildings, red lanterns and lacquered doors and no cars. Although this town was beautiful, we still awoke every morning to the chorus of hocking. After that we took our final night train to Beijing. To arrive in a very dirty hotel…one of the worst places on our trip…just what you need at the end of your traveling. We did all the usual tourist sights like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Olympic Stadiums. The highlight of our China trip came on the last day when we hiked the Great Wall! Not the usual tourist spot to see the wall, we travelled by local bus and with a Chinese guy in his car to get to the start of this 10k hike. We had a beautiful day for it and it is the best way to see the wall. No other tourists to spoil our photos and you get an idea of how long the wall really is.
Our final destination in Asia was a stark contrast to the previous few weeks in China. Moving from pollution, poor hygiene and some what rude staring population. To an incredibly clean, polite, efficient and friendly society. Due to time and lack of funds we only got a taste of Japan. But we did like Tokyo and we didn't find as expensive as everyone told us. ( I would say a sandwich in Helsinki airport is much more of a rip off then anything in Japan)
We traveled through 4 countries in 24 hours to get back to little Kalmar in Sweden. We are now enjoying all the luxury things that life has to offer like; cheese, no queue to the bathroom, a full fridge of food, a bed without bedbugs, water from the tap, not being ripped off completely buying bananas and not having to book our next bus, train or flight.
We look forward to see all of you in Sweden and back in England!
