It was yet another early start today as I had to leave Da Lat at 07.10 to catch my bus to Ho Chi Minh City. I didn't have a hostel booked so when I arrived at HCMC I was quite pleased to be met by the usual bunch of people trying to sell rooms at their hotels.
I got talking with one lady and managed to get her down on the price a little and got an air-conditioned room with two single beds for only $10 per night which I thought was quite reasonable, expecially after checking some of the prices on Hostelworld. Many dorm rooms were around $8-10.
I went around to her hotel which was called Nhu Lan Hotel had a look at the room which was a little bit shabby but it was clean enough. I returned back to the reception desk, stepping over the many little dogs that were in the hotel and I booked in for 3 nights.
The hotel had a tour desk so I enquired about how much it would cost to extend my visa and also how long it takes as I would like to head down to Phu Quoc Island right in the south of Vietnam as I have heard from many people that it is really nice there. After considering the overall cost of the visa extension, the additional nights stay in HCMC and also the cost of the ferry to and from the Island , it made me think that it was no such a good idea so I decided to just book a trip for the Cu Chi Tunnels for tomorrow and also the bus to Phnom Penh in Cambodia for 3 days time as my Vietnamese visa runs out on 06/07/10 and I have to leave.
