9:35 set off at last from Southampton. Winds forecast force 5-7 and sea state moderate to rough. Even worse the wind is on the nose and it is raining. British summer time at it's best! Decide if weather is not as bad as forecast will go to Weymouth. Our alternative destinations are Lymington or Poole. After 5 hours into rain and wind gusty to 29 knots decide to cut short to Lymington. Whilst sailing notice the starboard running backstay is sticking out of the mast at a strange angle. When we get into Berthon Marina go up the mast to investigate. It stops raining and the sun comes out. The swage holding stay into master has twisted and bent. I reposition It and use gaffer tape to stop it doing again. Day 1 and the first creative fix. Note to self. Don I need more tape.
The weather is planned to be worse tomorrow so expect to be stuck for a few days in Lymington.

Neil Hi Peter, just read your blog (22.10 Saturday) as I sit in our house in Lymington! Will pop down tomorrow morning to say hi.
Sal Smith Hi Sue, Sal smith here. Checking out Peter's entry and the weather sounds fabulous! Hope you manage to get out of Lymington before we go back to work lol! Should have made you a ginger cake to scoff while you are stuck in the marina! Lots of love Sal xxx
