Hi all,
Been travelling for over two weeks now so thought it was time to make a blog entry and let you know what i´ve been up to.
First off, we flew into Lima and spent six days there before joining our group for the Inca trail. The first six days in Lima was spent getting ourselves together and going out a few times in the evening. During the day in Lima there is not much to do, we did all the sightseeing of the city centre in a day. The city is grim with little sunshine and cold temperatures. My recommendations are dont go there.
We then met up with our Inca trail group before flying to Cusco to start the trekking. We spent a day in Cusco getting aclimitised to the altitude, which was pretty tough as Cusco is 4000m above sea level. We then spent the next four days trekking to Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca civilization and one of the wonders of the world. The trek was really good fun, at night it was cold but I had purchased a jumper made from llama wool, which you will spot me fashionably modelling in the pics! The second day of the trek was the hardest as we reached an altitude of 4200m which was adequately named "dead womans pass", to help prevent sickness we had to chew of cocoa leaves. The trek was only 26miles but it was really hard work and it is easy to understand why the spanish army never got to machu picchu!
After the trek we returned to Cusco and have spent the last 6 days enjoying the beautiful city and having daily spanish lessons at a local school.
Anyway enjoy the pics, today we leave for Bolivia and next blogs should have some pictures of salt lakes and amazon rainforest!
