So.... when we last 'spoke' we mentioned that we were preparing for a mini hike in the Annapunna Himalayas.
Unfortunately our hike never materialised. What have we been doing instead? I hear you ask, well.......we hesitate to say it but ... we've spent the past five days with (for no better word) the trots. So those of you who winced at the earlier 'Yangzhou' entry and don't want to know the details LOOK AWAY NOW
...Still here? You're all sick...
So, Pete was incapacitated first - stomach cramps, vomiting the works - shortly followed by Polly, but only after her bold announcement that years of thumb-sucking meant "I obviously have a much stronger immune system than you". Pete did particularly well at this point to restrain himself from an 'I told you so' moment although he fully intends to mention this in the future.
After Polly's day familiarising herself with the tiles in the bathroom, Pete decided he had more to give and came back for more. This means we've been alternating evenings in while the other (during welcome bouts of wellness) has gone out for the lonely evening meal for one. There is nothing worse than sitting in a restaurant accompanied by a paperback and the pitying stares of your fellow diners (other than being the one back in the hotel room of course). The only plus side has been that we've read half a dozen books between us during this messy period.
Eventually we decided that action needed to be taken so we carried ourselves off to the pharmacist where the language barrier meant some creative mimes were required to describe in detail our symptoms. One stool sample later (the details of which no one really needs to know) and we are powering through a particularly powerful course of antibiotics. In fact things are going so well that we even managed to row a boat round a lake and cycle around town (you'd have thought we'd have had enough of sitting down).
Anyway, I guess these things happen and thankfully we are now feeling much better and we have properly joined the travellers' fraternity.
