At the bus terminal in Potosi, I got chatting to a Swiss guy, Mike, and a German girl called Rebecca. We were all going to Sucre and when we arrived, shared a taxi to my current hostel, Charcas. It´s in a good position, opposite the market and the taxi rank, and is a two minute walk from the plaza, where you can find a cinema, restaurants and other shops.
I decided to take a bit of time out to sort out my bag and papers I had gathered in my bag, and went out in the evening for some dinner. I found a nice restaurant with nice views over the plaza. I order the Huari beer, which as I had just read in my book about the Incas, was the name of a tribe around that time. My seat on the balcony was easily covered from the rain, which had begun to fall heavily by this point, but did not deter the people in the busy plaza below. To add to the effect, lightening lit up the night sky in the distance, as I tucked into my tomate soup followed by a local Bolivian dish, with beef chunks, chicken and sausage. Mum - it´s safe to say I´m eating well!
Today, I was hoping to catch a ride on the ´Dino Truck´, which takes people to an area outside town to the see some dinosaur tracks and such like. It didn´t work out, so I´ve used the time to update these diaries. This morning, I took a walk around town, and the local market. I dog began following me as it was eyeing-up by empanada (like a pasty), so I dropped a bit discreetly on the floor for it. The dogs look so pleading out here, I just couldn´t say no! After buying some ´manzanas´, or apples to provide part of my ´5 a day´, I left the market for the plaza and had lunch in the Chinese restaurant. I had sweet and sour pork, but something was lacking, perhaps the MSG I´m not quite sure.
Sucre seems a nice place and the locals I´ve spoken to seem friendly, but it´s been raining on and off for the last couple of days, and I´m quite looking forward to what La Paz has in store. After collecting my Lonely Planet guide from the British Embassy, which my folks have mailed to me, I´ll head on to Copacabana, and Isla Del Sol. The supposèd place where the Inca Sun god was created. It will be good to see this before going directly to Cuzco to begin the Inca Trail.
In an hour, I´ll catch a bus, ´cama´style to La Paz. Cama is the luxury bus, which apparently provides big, comfy seats to almost fully recline your seat. I´ve never ridden on one of these buses, so for just over a tenner for an overnight trip, I think it´ll be worth it. I can certainly appreciate it when the other night I had zero room to move when on the bus to Potosi, since I had a seat at the very back.
Until the next time...
