Day 2
27th May 2013
After a fairly good nights sleep I get up around 07:00. The traffic noise outside the hotel carried on until around 2am but to be honest I was so knackered it only woke me once. The plus side to the room is the shower nearly blows you across the room and it felt like someone was hitting me with a fire hose. The down side is that the water in the sink takes about 5 minutes to go down the plug hole and the toilet seat is not attached very well lol. The bathroom is tiny but enough for my needs. Head down to breakfast and Mmmmmm coffee, coffee, coffee. The food is ok and is buffet style, I open the first tray and fried and scrambled eggs, good start! On opening the second tray um it's chips and chicken stir fry, well as they say when in Rome and all that lol. After a few cups of coffee I head back up to my room and sort my bags out. Going to go for a wander later before checking out and moving to the starting hotel for the trip.
Wondered around the local area managing to get a little lost for a while. Lima is a mixture of apartment blocks and old colonial style houses painted pastel colours.
Check out of the hotel and get a taxi to my next hotel. Just my luck and I get a driver who has no idea where the hotel is and is trying to drive whilst using the sat nav app on his phone. After passing the same building 3 times I find the full address on my paperwork and show him. After another tour of the block and we arrive. First impressions of the hotel are good it's in a locked courtyard and looks much better than the previous one. After checking in I head to my room and what a difference between this one and the last. The only thing that bothers me slightly is that I know we have to share rooms on these trips but mine only has a double bed!!!!!!!!! Not going to be a happy bunny if I have to share tonight lol.
Took a walk around the local area this afternoon and ended up by the beach. The one thing that stands out about Lima and I don't know if its just the area we are in but it's very clean. There is no rubbish in the streets anywhere. After wandering around for a few hours I head back to the hotel ready for the welcome meeting and to meet my new travel companions, I already know I will be very hard to beat the Vietnam, Cambodia group from last year but only time will tell.
My new group is 16 people including me and being the only single man on the trip it looks like I'm having a room to myself all the way through BONUS!!!!!!
The group seems to be older than me and mostly couples but its early days and we have a selection of people from around the globe. After the meeting we head out for diner with our CEO who is called Paco. At dinner I try a large Pisco sour which is very much like a margarita but a hell of a lot stronger. To be honest I'm not sure if its because iv not eaten or this is really strong but after one glass I feel a bit merry lol. After dinner we head back to the hotel and as we walk I chat to a German girl called Jenny. She tells me that she was staying in the same hotel as me last night which is a shame we didn't know earlier as we could have shared a taxi. Back to the hotel and its only 21:00 and everyone is off to bed. Oh well probably just the traveling and things will pick up later in the trip. In all it's been a good first day 4 hour drive in the morning to Paracas.
