Hi guys!
So the last you heard from us was the day before what we now fondly refer to as the 'five trains day'. Not only could we not get our night train sleeping peacefully all the way to Geneva but they had to rub it in and make us do 4 change overs! We were pretty much in transit the whole of the 22nd travelling from 7am until 10:30 at night -but our hotel was grrreat! :)
Next day we looked around Geneva very briefly -it was immensely cold and foggy -we checked out the famous Lake Geneva and saw a huge fountain travelling 200km an hour 150m up into the air (0r should we say clouds). On the same day we finished the final leg of our convaluted trip to Luzern -but wow the view off this train through the snowy alps were spectacular (when you can see through the fog). We got to our hotel in Luzern and were upgraded to a top storey room overlooking the river -which was very cool -literally!
The next day (Christmas Eve) we went to Luzern's transport museum where we saw old trains cars and planes and played some fun simulation games (Ann has a faster reaction speed than Greg... but Greg wants to point out that we're BOTH in the outstanding range).. we also got to see an Imax movie along with it. That night after eating some cheese fondue for tea we went to midnight mass at a church that had an orchestra as well as their choir and we got to watch it all from the loft -it was beautiful.. but we both missed home and hearing the St.David's choir singing all the Christmas carols... :(
THEN Christmas day -although we both were a bit sad there were no presents to unwrap the rest of the day definately made up for it... We took a bus to a town, where we took a four person gondolla ride by cable up 1000m before changing over to a 40 person cable car (where from the views of the snowy alpine forest was amazing) to climb the final 1000 or so metres. All up we ended up we got to 2170m above sea level at the top of Mt. Pilatus... and then the camera died and we didnt have our spare battery! We climbed up some walking tracks and enjoyed the stunning viws of countless snow topped peaks before having lunch in the sun... yes in the sun... despite all the disbelief -it was actually warmer on top of the mozuntain than down in the foggy valley... Greg even had to take his coat off... Ann took off her beanie!
The next two hours were perhaps the highlight... Greg convinced ann to tabogan (?spelling??) down about 10km of the snowy alp on an old fashioned wooden sleigh with no brakes... we had to use our heel to steer and more importantly brake! but it was awesome and Ann hasn't screamed that loud ever before! We then got to drop off point, dropped off the sleighs as the sun was setting on us before we went home to scrub up for Christmas dinner.
Firstly we treated ourselves to a cab to the restaraunt (it was so good to be sitting in a car again!) then we set our teeth into 4 courses of exotic top quality yummy stuff:) -details will be in Greg's food diary!
Thats all we have time to fill you all in on for now... as we are being thrown out the internet cafe here in Heidelberg...
We wish you all a Happy New Year -you will get it before we do!
Love you and miss you all heaps!!
xxAnn and Greg
