Penny's Big Adventure
Hey guys,
After the boat trip incident, I didn't think I'd get to see the Great Barrier Reef up close, but I decided to book a sea plane flight which flew over the reef and took us snorkelling.
Snorkelling was amazing, seeing the fish coming up to you, being inquisitive and seeing all the colours of the coral was just fantastic. There's just no better way of seeing the reef than this.
We landed in the sea, got taken in a boat to Hardy Reef and watched the fish from the glass underside of the boat for a while. Then we got in the water and snorkelled for an hour. The current wasn't too strong so we were able to go quite far out and see some amazing sea creatures. The coral itself can cause a nasty cut and welt if you touch it, so I stayed well away! Afterwards, on the boat we sipped champagne whilst being transported back to the plane. We were then flown to Whitehaven beach for a champagne lunch for an hour. The sand is amazing, it's so powdery like flour. It's 99% silica which is made by two plates in the earth rubbing together and coming out of a nearby mountain on the island and washing up on the shore. That's essentially how Whitehaven was created.
So for me, the highlight of this trip was snorkelling on the reef. Definitely worth doing, for anyone who's thinking of doing the same.
And one lesson to learn - never go on a boat when its full moon if you don't like big waves!!
Love
