I planned to stay in Salt lake for 4 nights, but soon realised that an out of season ski resort is kinda boring (1st mistake). It is also of-course famous for the being the centre of the Mormon faith (2nd mistake) I arrived off the Greyhound bus at 7.30 in the morning, so decided to walk to the hostel (3rd mistake). The hostel here was weired - nobody worked in it, and it was full of cameras! Big Brother or what!! I re-arranged my plans, and decided to stay only 2 nights (and that was enough). There was a French and Welsh guy in the hostel, so in the morning we went down to check out the Mormon scene! There's a big area called Temple Square where all the Mormon action takes place. We were pursuaded to take the guided tour by two Missionaries, called Sister Martinez (from Spain) and Sister Harve (from Wyoming). The Mormon faith is the only faith to have only women missionaries! The tour took us through the main chappel, the concert hall for the world famous Abernacle Choir and the new conference hall (which holds 21,000 mormons). Unfortunatley, we weren't allowed into the Temple, as there were weddings taking place all day......................and that was Salt Lake City! So, yet again I seemed to find myself in a Bar, this time with a Dutch guy from the Hostel. To get a beer in Utah is harder than you may think! You have to buy a licence first for $4, which lasts 6 weeks and is only valid for that bar. Then it is classed as a private club, so you can drink and smoke till your heart's content. Though, smoking is banned in public buildings in Utah!?! (Mental note - dont go to Salt lake when there is no snow. )
