Hiya from the North Island.
We have changed our flights slightly and decided that we need to get out in the sun pretty soon and we were getting slightly cold & bored in New Zealand. It's a beautiful country but there's only enough scenic views you can enjoy before getting too complacent. We decided on an action packed week instead of a long 11 days.
Upon arriving in the North Island we were amazed at how much more busy this island is. We arrived in Wellington, didn't really do too much apart from sort everything out and take in a few sights of the city. Which included a ride on the 100+ year old cable car.
Next we went up to Lake Taupo, here we stopped to take in the sights of the Lake, Aratiatia Rapids, Craters of the Moon and thermal mud pools.
Next was Rotorua, this place absolutely stinks of rotten eggs, it's from the sulphur that comes up through the ground created by the volcanic activity below. We decided to go zorbing while here, this is where we were put inside a massive inflatable ball with some water and then rolled down a hill. we loved it, we were bashing in to each other and laughing all the way down the 215m hill. In the afternoon we nursed our bruises over at Hells Gate, first we walked round the thermal area looking at all the boiling mud and water before having a mud bath of our own!
The next morning we were up nice and early for a spot of White Water Rafting. Paul was feeling adventurous and booked us in for a Level 5 rapids. Theres only 6 Levels! Carly was dreading it! He said if your going to do these things might aswell do the best/scariest. We had a great time our guides were very good and helped work our way down several waterfalls including a massive 7m drop! We managed to stay in the raft at all times apart from when the guides chucked Paul in. The water was freezing aswell.
Hot Water beach was our next destination. This is a beach where if you dig your own hole the volcanic activity below heats up the water in the hole. Some holes were boiling. We weren't brave enough to bathe fully in it as we knew we would have to get out at some point and it would be freezing!
Our final stop has been in Auckland. We've been here for a couple of days. We were planning on going up in a Hot Air Ballon and booked it for this morning. Unfortunately because of the wind we were un able to fly and have no time to do it again. Oh well, think we have already done alot while we've been away!
Were off to Fiji tomorrow and can't wait!
Love to all.
Carly and Paul
