Hi
Just to let you know what happened in Singapore; I had a hellish flight on Christmas Day from the Philippines (where I incidentaly bought a cool guitar for only £13!!) because after the most rigorous and anal customs and check in procedure, and one hour in the air my flight was called back to the philippines because if technical difficultly. Waited 2 more hours in the airport then boarded the same plane and got to Singapore fine...but at 3 in the morning! The guest house I had reserved did not answer the door, it was POURING with rain and I went to the cheapest one the taxi driver could think of for £20..considering I had been paying £1-3 per night this was a fortune!!
Anyway, slept in then found mysekf a new guesthouse nearer centre of town and for a much more reasonabe rate. The day was still pouring with monsson rain, it did not let up ONCE. Basically spent the day wandering around Chinatown, Little India and some markets/shops. Singapore is ALL malls and shopping (with good foo dthrown in). Because there are a mix of people there is a mix of really good food so I was in paradise..shopping and eating!
The second day I went to Sentosa Island in the morning beacuse it was dry though overcast and this island is basically a theme park since its all man made (including he beach) and has monorail, cable car and colour coded buses with rides...though dont be fooled..they arent interesting rides, only informative type ones made for gentle asian dispositions. Not impressed, especially since al rides were so expensive. Then teh rain that had been treatening decided to show face and I promptly scurried via Blue Bus to Vivo City Shopping Mall, the largest shopping hub in Singapore and only one month old. OH MY GOD. So many shops. So many cheap proices. I was in heaven. Basically everythin gin Singapore is real brands, not fakes and they are all cheaper than teh UK, (tho not nearly as cheap as fakes in other countries, but obviously good quality cos real). And since it was just after chrisdtmas everywhere had sales, and not tiny polite sales like in teh UK, but full blooded 50-70% off sales!, including all the designer stores such as Diesel, Prada, Boss etc. Then I went shoping in Orchard Road (their version of Oxford street but with even more shops and even more people) where there are four huge malls within five mins walk, all catering to different markets:
1)Lucky Plaza - cheap and cheerful (well dingy) for mobile phone accessories, no name clothes etc
2)Paragon - top end designer only mall
3)Takashima - mix of mass market and designer
4)I cant remember the name but its a mass market mall
Fully exhausted after walking round all the malls (miles and miles) I came back to my room with some new things but frustatingly few new things because of my baggage limitations.
