Well, we made it! Of course it was never a question of making it for Tim-it was only me that had the question mark. This was definitely the most challenging ride of my life, we rode through every road type imaginable, dirt, sand, gravel, chip seal, broken black top and wonderful mud....We went up mountains and down mountains. Switchbacks and 12% grades with sharp curves at the end. No guard rails and drop offs that were very intimidating. Wildfires burning in the distance and close up. The road ran next to the Alaskan Pipeline and it was almost always in sight. Stopped for dinner at the "Hot Spot Cafe" which was made famous by the TV show Ice Road Truckers, it is run by a woman that no one would ever forget! It is definitely not the type of cafe you would go to back home but she sure does make a good burger. We had originally planned on spending the night there but when we realized it was a container room with bunk beds for $200 a night and outhouses we decided to make the trek back to Fairbanks. Arrived back in Fairbanks at 12:30 am with the sun still up in the sky. Sunday we head for Anchorage.
