After Nelson we headed down the West Coast of the South Island. Before arriving at Westport we stopped off at Lake Rotoiti for some awesome views, we also caught some great views at Westport beach. The next day we travelled from Westport to Lake Mahinapua. We journeyed southbound on State Highway 6 checking out Tauranga Bay and the seal colony and then the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. Just after lunch we stopped off at the town of Greynouth. The reason for this was to pick up items to make a fancy dress costume for the party that night. The night was being spent at the Lake Mahinapua Hotel (or Poo Pub) and the theme of the party was the letter ‘P’. I decided to go as Paikei; from the Maori legend of The Whale Rider. The night was great and the costumes from the Pink Panther to Pervy Priests were great and everyone put a lot of effort in. The best part of the night however was that I helped the bus driver wash the dishes from the group dinner. That may not sound like the most of exciting of events but because I helped out the driver gave me the best costume prize of a free canyon swing in Queenstown worth $180! You see people, it pays to be nice.
