Days 3 & 4. Long drive today from Broken Hill to Arkaroola about 500km. Poured rain in BH on Saturday night so the roads ahead could be challenging. Visited the sculptures in the living desert and then onto the road. Lousy coffee at Mannahill then turned north at Junta for 300km of long sections of mud. Vehicles finding traction difficult on bad spots and picked up lots of sticky brown mud which changed the vehicles colour to reddy brown. But we pushed through stopping for lunch at the old ruins of Wauckaringa, a balmy 22 degrees. Arrived into Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary at 5.00pm pretty tired, found nice campsites down near the creek. Dinner spaghetti boll guests of Keith and Di. Next day Ross and I took a 7km walk through Barralanna Gorge and its beautiful waterholes and red schist, tellite and slate walls. After hot showers we hit the bar at Arkaroola for a few Coopers and a big BBQ cook-up of lamb chops and snags with a bottle of red. What a beautiful starry night!
