Day 1. London - Atlanta - Lima - Cusco
Well after 28 hours, 3 flights, (two of which I sat next to two lovely young men. The first one was off to North Carolina (?) to be a football coach and the second, a body builder off to a competition in Peru. Unfortunately though, as with most body builders I presume, he was more interested in talking about himself and even showed me pictures of his last competition!), 4 movies, 3 gins and enough in flight food to last me a week I have finally arrived at my first destination. Cusco, Peru. Everywhere I looked in the airport there was a Starbucks, Papa Johns and a Dunkin Donuts so I don't feel TOO alienated just yet.
So here's an interesting fact. Altitude sickness is very common at heights of over 2500m. Cusco is 3400m above sea level so for 3 days I am sticking with the luxury a wee bit longer just in case, before I head off up Machu Pichhu. I've just checked in and I'm sipping cocoa tea which is meant to help.
Going to try hard not to make these posts too long and boring for when I read them back in years to come! So night night zzzzzzz
