No idea what the date is but it's Saturday. Back in the Delightful Delhi. Staying in a lovely little guesthouse with a beautiful park opposite where there are political ramblings, yoga fanatics and loads of kids playing. Luxury after the very strange and rather remote city of Alwar where we were last night. Don't think the place we stayed had ever seen a guest, nevermind a red headed 2 year old. COnsequently, they went out of their way to help us out. Made us omellettes with "no spice" (they can't understand why we don't want spice for breakfast) and gave us milk for Archie ("don't like it" - think it was buffalo milk). We were staying next to a farmers village and believe me it was rural. "Grandad" was sat outside with his reumy eyes giving us the once over before he took his goats out (maybe it was goats' milk?). The women all started work before 6 (I know becaues I got tangled up in the mizzie net at 6 and had to get up) and the men seemed to spend a lot of their time sluicing themselves with water and sitting together on rickety beds outside discussing "things". Typical. They all carry things on their heads, much to Archie's delight. He's a bit passe about elephants now though.
Went to Sariska Park on a jeep this morning ("Poppa's car") and saw loads of peacocks, deer, wild boar ("piggies"), crocodiles and parrots. No tigers though. Thank god.
Now back in Delhi and getting eaten alive by mozzies. What I wouldn't give for a jacket potato and beans (with NO SPICE!). We're in suburbia and it's really quite posh. Our driver was so happy to get rid of us! He did well really. We've now done the Golden Triangle with a 2 year old and proved our critics wrong!! AND we've had great fun. Off to Merauli Archaeological Park tomorrow and possible the zoo (to see one of the elusive tigers) - I'm not sure I'll like the way they treat the animals; the one we went on in Jaipur looked ever so sad. India is surprising me all the time though. Promise to put some photos on tomorrow.
