Omis and the salty pirates
Copey had booked us into a hostel in omis a little pirate town that was 25km south of split and there was loads of buses there. So we headed out at 11 and jumped on the local bus. It cost us 20 kuna each and we had to stand up most of the way because it was ram packed and we had our backpacks with us. We were watching eagle eyes for a camp site call galeb, we thought it would only take 30 mins but it took about an hour and we jumped off the bus after we saw the camp sign and the sign for omis.
We had no clue where this place was, we only had the address and the name katelan, we had no map but assumed that this place was small enough and we were on the right road. We were, we got to the house number 90 and a croatian man greated us , he shouted someone and then his son came out who could speak english. He said they were refurbing the 3 bed dorm so we got the apartment for the same price. Brilliant an apartment for 315 kunas thats about £40 for two nights, we dumped our stuff then headed out to explore. We went over the road at a rafting hut and asked about it we had seen adverts for 200 kunas each so was hoping it was that much. when she said 150 we snatched her hand off and booked it straight away. We thought this was our luck day, good accomodation and bargain rafting too. As we walked around the town we joked that the locals must love salty pirating around here as it was a pirate town after all. If you dont know what salty pirate is then dont ask, that is what googles for!
Omis town was quite small and we walked around the streets eyeing up where to eat tea. There was a lot of boat trips advertised and a lot of travel agents selling rafting some for 250 kunas so we felt we got a bargain. The river cetina runs through the main road and into the sea below.
We ate at a restaurant called pod odormino and i ordered mixed grill with chips and garlic bread. Copey got a pizza we were both impressed with the meal , left stuffed and completly satisfied that we had a great day. None of us could bear a beer though.
