Hi again,
As I have a little mre time I thought I'd update you on our time in Vietnam so far.
After our long and testing bus journey (shouldn't compain as we only had one puncture on the way) we arrived here in Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh as we westerners like to call it). As we were all tired the afternoon was spent wandering around a little, followed by our last official group dinner with the Cambodian Tour. Can't believe that 3 people have now left the tour but we have got 6 new members so the group feels a lot bigger now. Our first full day in Saigon we actually split up with Paul walking around the city and Chinese markets with some of the group while I took a tour of the war tunnels with a few other members of the group. It was amazing seeing the tiny tunnels where the people lived for weeks on end during the American war. Was proud that I could crawl along about 100m of the tunnel so I don't know how they ever managed! That afternoon we then met our new group members and went out for our first official group dinner, followed by a couple of drinks in the backpacker area of the town.
Yesterday we went out with most of the group for a trip to the Mekong river. Here we cruised around the delta on several old but sterdy (so we were told) boats. We managed to see coconut sweets being made using veryvold-fashioned equipment?nothing like a trip to Cadbury World I must say?but really interesting. Then our tour progressed to a bee hive, much to Paul's dismay, where we enjoyed a cup of tea with hunny. I was fairly comfortable with the bee situation until they then brought out a huge snake you could wrap around yourself?suddelny had a lot more sympathy for Paul! After this we went for lunch where we ordered pretty much the scaryest looking fist\h you have ever seen. Have to sat\y though, it tasted fantastic. We thought our luck was up when the heavens opened for yet another tropical storm but we did manage to make it out on small cannoos (we were all wearing vietnamese hats of course) before heading back to the city.
Today is unfortunately our last day here but we're moving on to the beach part of our tour which should provide us with some great opportunities for diving.
That's about it guys. Again, sorry for the late update. We promise to try to get on the internet again soon but not sure exactly when it will be.
All the best,
Mette and Paul xx
