Been here 5 days now and have found some fantastic beaches! Today, we found ourselves all alone in a small bay. We must say that Koh Lanta is a fantastic island!
However, we booked a 4 island snorkelling trip two days ago and it is no exaggeration to say that we are lucky to be alive to tell the tale. The wind blew up to such a level that the waves were higher than our longtail boat. We should never have gone out in such extreme weather. Coral was not great and the fish were not terribly interesting either. The highlight was a 100 yard swim into a cave, which opened up into the most amazing lagoon! Simply stunning! Then came the return journey. Waves were crashing onto the boat and we all got soaked. The skipper clearly looked anxious and he does this every day! I had my life jacket on and done up, expecting us to capsize any minute, which was a distinct possibility. One and a half hours later (journey time should be 45 minutes) we managed to reach shore. The skipper was given a round of applause. Health and Safety? Forget it. The tour company clearly put profit before client safety. Trip Advisor have put my comments online. 16 people on board will see their relatives again.
We check out tomorrow and move further down the coast.
