Vang Vieng is the adrenalin junkie capital of Laos, so we have taken the opportunity to do as many things here as possible. We started with tubing through the caves and went about 500 metres wearing miners lamps on our heads, which was just as well, because it was pitch black inside.
On Monday, Marion went on a hot air balloon ride, which she enjoyed very much. The balloon went right over the hotel! It lifted to about 1000 feet.
Yesterday, we went kayaking and Ziplining for our first time. We did a total of 6 flights through jungle, ravines and finally a 380 metre zip line over the river without holding on. What a fantastic, exhilarating experience! We were hooked on at every turn and very professionally organised. The walk over the ravine was a bit hair raising as it required super concentration 100 feet up to stay upright. We were the oldest to do it and we received quite a few compliments from the youngsters. Paul said he felt like Peter Pan, silly sod lol
The kayaking was great too and we kayaked for about 7 to 10 klms down the Nam Song river.
Today, we hired a private tuk tuk to the Blue Lagoon but first we climbed up to the caves, which was a lot more dangerous than Ziplining. It was a steep climb and easy to get lost in the caves as there is no guide or lights!!! We just had helmet lights to guide us around and through the caves.
Returning to the Blue Lagoon was a welcome and refreshing swim. We were entertained by a load of Korean women, none of whom could swim, coming down the water slide fully clothed and wearing sun hats! Paul had to help one of them as she was clearly in distress and starting to panic.
We have had a great time here but another 4 hour bus journey awaits us in the morning to Vientiane, the capital city. Fingers crossed it passes without incident.
