What can we say about Cambodia other than in our opinion it wins the 2014 Land of Smiles award. The warmth and friendliness of the people is sometimes humbling considering how poor they are compared to Thailand. Everybody smiles and waves at us.
Been on a few trips including a bamboo train and a punt through the mangroves.
There are no trains in Cambodia, so, everything is by road or boat and the roads are horrendous! There is no Highway Code. The rule of thumb is that if it is bigger than you, it has right of way.
It has such a recent and tragic history. 3 million people were killed by the Khmer Rouge and there are still victims of unexploded ordinances following the war. Cambodia is like an onion. The more layers you take off, the more it makes you feel like crying.
The one thing that doesn't make you cry is the constant cacophony of cackling Koreans on every trip we've been on.
Had a wonderful trip out to a village yesterday called Kompong Pluk. The houses are on stilts about 20 metres high as the water levels rise that much in the wet season.
Visiting a cultural village in the morning and the war museum. Marion is up at 5am to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat.
The key to this country is to expect the unexpected. It's nothing to see a whole family on a moped or someone carrying 200 dead chickens over the handle bars, but we have seen everything when we saw a mother breast feeding her baby whilst riding side saddle on a moving moped. Unbelievable.
