Dear All,
No prizes for guessing where we are now. Arrived in Sydney last Saturday morning after a 12 hour overnight train from Melbourne. This overnight train lark doesn't get any easier and I'm not doing it again. The flights were all booked as were most hotels in Sydney. The World Power boat Championships and other sporting events were going on plus a Bank Holiday, so, everyone was out and away.
The weather continues to be in the 90's every day and this morning, we're heading out to Bondi beach. Yesterday, was a 2 hour train journey to the Blue Mountains, which were incredible. A very long day but a good one, nonetheless.
We walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and did the tour of the Opera House, which I found rather boring, but maybe we're spoilt, who knows? We're stunned by how expensive some things are in Oz. The exchange rate has dropped but double the price of London, as some things are?
We were well looked after in Melbourne by Trevor and Breda. We did the tour of the MCG (Ray) and went around Capt. Cook's original cottage in Fitzroy gardens. It was shipped over in 1933 and the Aussies are proud of their connection with him. Most British kids wouldn't even know who he was. We're amazed at how 'English' the Aussies are, though they probably wouldn't want to hear that especially from a Pom. It's hard to imagine that we are on the other side of the world and see pubs, fish and chips, afternoon tea and everyone calling you 'mate'.
Thanks Julie and Mick for posting our package for us in the UK. It surprised one or two with the post mark. Hope everthing went well for you and we're sure that you're pleased to get back to Perth.
Not had a chance to post any more pics yet but we will from Cairns, where we fly to tomorrow. Great Barrier Reef here we come. It will be good to get away from city life and enjoy the big outdoors again and they don't get bigger than the GBR. Paul is especially looking forward to the tropical rainforests of Northern Queensland but not the drive to Brisbane.
The best news is that paul doesn't need to fly back to the UK in April. He has a trial at the Crown Court which he has been concerned about. It was even suggested that he give video link 'live' evidence' from the British Embassy in Wellington, NZ 'cos we'll be there at the time. So, Phil Ellis please tell Dave Taylor that I'm gratefull for all his work.
Take take all,
Love from Paul & Marion
