Hi All
Ww arrived in Krabi town earlier today following a 2 hour boat from Koh Phi-Phi Don Island. We have been on Koh Phi-Phi Don for the past 4 days and were over arwed by it's beauty. Unlike myself Alanna is not a lover of the sunshine, which made things difficult as there was not much else to do, given that it is a very small Island with few ammenities.
Our accomodation consisted of very basic wooden huts on stilts with no hot water, nor electricity sockets, therefore frizzy lil Alanna was unable to keep down that full head of hair ha!. Although it was very basic, we couldn't complain with the view overlooking the beach and Koh Phi-Phi Leh (Famously known for the filming of 'The Beach'. In the morning we were able to watch the sun rise and by the night we lay on the wooden decking whilst under the stars, and listened to the waves crash against the cliffs below. Really beautyful!.
Things were not all so fine and dandy though as on Friday 9th February both myself and Ali plus two loverly couples from Ireland and Germany managed to find ourselves completely stranded in the middle of the Anderman Ocean between Koh Phi-Phi Don and Baboo Island. Folloing snorkling in a coral reef nest to Baboo Island we continued our journey around Kho Phi-Phi Don, however whilst on route the propella accidently hit a coral reef and flew off into the sea. All we heard was "Oh No" from the little Thai fellow. Anyway we were left out in the blazing sunshire at sea for 1.5 hours. Ali was going nuts, not being one for travelling on boats in the first place let alone being stranded at sea in a very narrow wooden long boat. Fortunately, I brought my mobile with me, not someting I would usually do but thank God I did as the boat driver had no way of contacting the coast gard etc.
Luckily enough the two couples whom we met were superb, really genuine people. Although quite a frightening expereince, we all managed to find a funny side to the situation. Al vows never to travel at sea again!.
Further to this, we continued on to Monket Beach (Fantastic) and Koh Phi-Phi Leh for more snorkling. Al spoted a sea snake once in the water and shot straight back out. Never seen her move so fast!. There was no getting back into the water after that for Ali.
That evening and the next were spent overlooking the Island under candle-light with both the two couples we previously met, which was extremely nice.
This morning we travelled by "boat boat" to Krabi (Had to force Al On). Krabi is just like a sleepy town, being so relaxed and peaceful. Popped to the food market earlier and managed to find possibly the hottest curry either I or Al had ever eaten before. It completely blew our heads off, however was suprising nice. Seen a few fried cockroaches, however neither of us were brave enough to try.
Hopefully off to hire a moped tomorrow to investigate a hot volcanic spring and forgotton lagoon so should be fun.
Hope your all ok and thanks to those whom have written on our message board (thanks El for the tips).
From Paul and Alanna....Be safe and goodnight
