Hey Guys!
Firstly, before we start, we apologise for a no show on the picture front. We are desperately trying to get them uploaded, however are having a few difficulties. Hopefully they should be updated soon.
Well, hello from Singapore. We say goodbye to it tomorrow as we head to Bangkok, Thailand. Both myself and Alanna absolutely love it here. It's not the cheapest, however I guess were comparing it to India prices. It's remarkably clean, cosmopolitan and the people here are very friendly. Fortunately for us we arived to Singapore on the Eve of Chinese New Year, therefore the city has a fantastic buzz / atmosphere everywhere you go.
On arriving at Changi Airport, Singapore we were amazed by the facilities and cleanliness of the airport, which compared to Mumbai Airport was a Palace. On arriving at our Hotel (Hotel Fragrance, Crystal) we were surprised to find out that we were smack bang in the heart of the Amsterdam of Singapore (Red Light District). Hotel, however is cheap and comfortable with fantastic amenities (ie:public transport / MRT Metro) so we have decided to stay for the whole duration whilst in Singapore.
We ventured into China Town on the first night and wondered in amazement through the crowds, whilst soaking in the atmosphere. Singapore never sleeps as the city really comes to life at night. People walk the city streets, browsing the market stalls and eating at every street corner. The variation of food is unbelieveable and of good quality.
We stumbled fortunately across bar called 'EZ 50' for the first time since we started our journey. The bar was a find and a half. It was really swanky with low lights, candles and really good live music. Alanna fell in love with a cocktail called 'Singapore Sling'. Very sweet, a lot like Al actually!. Alanna was over the moon as it was 2 for 1 before 10 o'clock. Paul being the beer monster he is (for anyone whom knows me, thats a lie) I stuck to good old Tiger Beer, brewed in Singapore.
The next morning was a struggle. We didn't manage to drag ourselves out of bed until 1pm the following day!. We then spent another day browsing the markets and relaxing. Oh yeah, I became alittle caught up in the Chinese atmosphere and decided t take a look in the tattoo shop. Only 2.5 hrs later, after nearly passing out, Paul found a nice Chinese enscription on his left forearm, which signifies his birth date. It looks really cool. A few more Tiger's were consumed that evening as a celebration (Byrney loves beer! Yes I do Monkey & Sloth).
The next morning we got up nice and early and took a bus to Sentosa Island, which is an Island off the harbour and is really beautiful. There we visited the Underwater World, which was by far the most spectacular aquarium we have ever seen. On the way in there was a snake charmer holding a 8FT Boa (Yellow) which Paul had drapped around his neck moments later whilst Al was running in the opposite direction.
We spent hours in the aquarium looking and touching various marine life such as;
GIANT Crabs!, Stig Rays (Paul Fed them) Crickey!, Puffer Fish - Al loves a good puffer fish, turtles, reef/white tip/nurse and the daddy of them all the Tiger Shark. We spent hours in the underground aquarium as they swam around us.
Later that day we moved around the Island to Dolphin Lagoon, which was next to a fab beach. After a cocktail we then moved on to see the Pink Dolphin Show and had a picture with the dolphin in the shallow waters. Once again we headed back to China Town for a bite to eat (Prawn Balls and Shark Fin Soup) and popped into the Carlsberg bar. We had an early night (12pm).
Yesterday was a lazy day. After our breakfast at 3pm, we sat beside Clarke Quay (Loads of bars and restaurants - hoters and Ministry Of Sound) and watched the world go by. Sometimes it's hard to beleive that we are actually here. It's nice sometimes just not to do anything at all.
We went back to China Town last night for food before running back to our favourite bar (EZ 50) for a couple of drinks before bed. We met a lad from Singapore (Bar's Sound Technician) whom gave us a lesson in martial arts in the middle of the bar. Apparently, Paul looks like Jamie Carragher (as if).
Today Alanna being the good soul she is may allow Paul to watch Singapore Vs Thailand, Football match at their National Stadium - watch this space. For the first time Al's got a bad belly so Paul may be going to grab some tickets alone.
We leave tomorrow morning and we will update you from Thailand and hopefully get these pictures sorted that you've all been asking for.
Lots Of Love & Happy Chinese New Year
Alanna & Paul x
