The adventure begins!
Tokyo, Japan
I arrived in Tokyo in the early morning and headed straight to K's Hostel in Asakusa. After checking in and having a much needed shower, I went out to Asakusa. I saw the Senso-ji temple and the shrines in the surrounding gardens. I walked up to Nakamse Street which was full of a lot of random stuff, including fake food, nodding cats, 'ice cream' burgers and chocolate-filled pastries in the shape of maple leaves! It all felt very surreal and I still couldn't believe I was finally in Japan, after all the months of planning.
On my walk back to the hostel, 'sandal gate' occured...the strap of my flip flop broke which meant I had to practically hobble back to the hostel and stop every few metres! Not fun...
I then went back to the hostel and luckily, they were just about to start a sushi-making class for a couple of hours so I joined in. It was great fun, we learnt how to roll the rice onto the seaweed using the tatami mats and made three different types of sushi rolls, which we then ate!
A great first day and start to the trip - had a feeling we were not going to want to leave this place...
