This picture is great except that we didn't get into town until dusk and by the time that we went on the tram it was dark, and we stumbled in the dark to find the lookout!! The city looked very nice all light up at night. We found a nice Asian restaurant for dinner and found our way back to the hostel with only about six wrong turns!! This is the nicest hostel yet - my own bathroom again - yeah!!! It is clean, decorated well and freshly painted!!!
The last few days have been travel days with some wonderful highlights. We left Queenstown on Tuesday morning and travelled to Christchurch. We saw some amazing scenery - mountains were clear with their reflections in the lakes at the bottom. We had a nice night in Christchurch - roam around town and a lovely dinner. Wednesday drive to Kaikoura where we went whale-watching in the afternoon. We saw 7 whales, about twelve dolphins and a cove of fur seals. Then we went to the Strwberry Inn(the Sheep Shaggers Bar) where we took part in Trivia Night. We won, something that we were worried about with the attitude of one table of locals. Our prize was a bar tab of $60, so I finally did a Jaeger Bomb with my team. The most lethal part of that has to be the Red Bull!! What a wonderful day. Kaikoura has snow capped mountains in the background and the Pacific Ocean out front. Our hostel is an old hotel that was built in 1921 with few decorations changed since then. Young Joanne looked after me again and I got my own room with a washroom ensuite and a mountain view - yeah!!!
Today we stopped early in the drive to Picton to take pictures of a cove of seals. Then we parked the bus just down the road to hike up to a waterfalls. The pleasant surprise was that two baby seals were playing at the bottom of the waterfalls and they real put on a show for us!! I could have stayed and watched for hours!
We travelled on to Picton where we caught the ferry to Wellington and here we are. After our adventure finding the tram and dinner and then finding our hostel, we are back for the night. There are at least 10 young people all around this lobby on computers or being social. This is my last night on the road - I go back to Lauren's tomorrow. It's an 11 hour drive. She called me today to see if I'm up for a party tomorrow night, so I said yes if I could bring my new friend Kate for the night.
This trip has been a blast - I am getting a little tired, and I do long to be home with Rowley and sitting with my feet up in a lazy boy for a night!!
Thank you for the great messages Lee-Anne and Sue - I was telling Kate how I was thinking about both of you and the Triathalon today - I wondered if Sue was going to do two parts with Lee-Anne - but no, getting out of town instead!!!
I miss all of you and can't wait to share these amazing adventures. I'll see you next week,
Love Patti
