Aloha all :)
It has been a week ago that I have written my last blog.
I'm fine so far and my last week was a bit busy. Finally today (Monday) I could do my laundry packing and rest :)
Last week I bought a 7-days unlimited metro pass and it costs $27. So you can travel the whole metro system of NYC. Only thing is that the platform is pretty hot, so I was a bit steamy and sweating when I was waiting for the metro. But in the metro there are air condition but sometimes it could be cold too.
The places where I have been last week:
- Yankee Stadium
- Flushing Meadows Park (US Open)
- Brooklyn Museum
- Brooklyn Botanical Garden
- Brighton Beach
- Coney Island
- St.John's Episcopal Church, Woodbridge, NJ
Yankee Stadium, Bronx:
This is on 161st Street. It's a big stadium and about the size of that stadium it looks like PSV Eindhoven (Soccer team in Holland). Unfortunately I was bit late to reach to the stadium, cause they prepared for a new game. The environment is a mix up culture like: black, Latin, Asisan etc.
Flushing Meadows Park, Queens:
The US Open will be hold at the end of August. That's the last Grand Slam of the season (Australian, French & Wimbledon). The park is big and you can find this on 111st Street. From subway station you have to walk like 10 minutes to the park.
If I look tennis, then it's annoying to hear the airplanes. The park is very close to the 3rd airport of New York: La Guardia.
When I came there it was very quiet and also not much activities around. But at the end of August will be different for sure.
The environment what I saw so far are a lot of Latin people. Sometimes you can feel if you are walking in a South America country ;)
Brooklyn Museum / Brooklyn Botanical Garden:
These 2 are on the Eastern Parkway. About the museum: it's a very interesting museum. The price to get in there is just $6 with a student pass (I brought my student pass from Holland). It's has 5 floors with art and paintings about Europe, Middle-East, Asia and America. I spent 3 hours and it was really worth :)
Brooklyn Botanical Garden is definitely to see that. Again I used my student pass and it costs me $4 to get in :)
The park have a lot of trees, flowers and gardens. My favorite spot was the Japanese garden and the spot was awesome. Only what I can say is: just come and check it out :)
Brighton Beach / Coney Island
Those are in Brooklyn too. Brighton Beach could be your final stop or you are going 2 station further and Coney Island will be your final stop.
If you get off Bright Beach station, then you see a lot of Russian signs. This is the part where a lot of Russians and Jewish people are living.
Further those places are beaches and also there is a amusement park. So it's not a top beach, but there are a lot of things to do.
Every year there will be the famous hot dog contest in the world at Nathans. Of course I tried the hot dogs too, but after 2 hot dogs I'm done ;)
St.John's Episcopal Church, Woodbridge, NJ:
Last Saturday I went with a good friend to the church. It's a bit different what I have seen compared with the Korean church. But it's still good and definitely not boring. There was a special guest that came: the Bishop of New Jersey. A very interesting 2 hour service. After the service we got dinner and definitely good food as well :)
Those are the activities what I have done so far last week. There are some trouble as well. It's actually from last year and that is: the toilet. It's one of the biggest problem if I used a toilet. It has happened to me several times last week and also last year. It's about the flushing system. A plumber came several times to check out the toilet and he has no idea what has happened. He said to me: I never have that problem before for about 20 years. But I have my ideas what could happen and it's all about that flushing system in the USA.
Anyway, tomorrow there is another place waiting for me: Honolulu, Hawaii :)
Finally looking forward to Hawaii and I will be there for the coming 3 weeks :) There are a lot of activities but this weekend is the Pan Pacific Festival :)
Further I have seen NYC in 2 weeks and definitely I saw a lot of things what I haven't seen on the 2 times what I have visited. So if you've never been to NYC, it's definitely to check it out :)
I would say to you all: cya all next time from Honolulu, Hawaii :)
