Aloha all :)
I'm fine so far!
My hotel is at the Asakusabashi and it's just 5 min from the station. It's a very quiet place and I'm sitting next to 24h convenience store. So I can get soda, water, noodle soup, sushi etc.
My first few days in Japan is excellent and exciting Only problem what I experienced so far during my trip in Japan is: communication. Japanese people are hardly to speak English, but with body-language and writing things down and I will come further .
Also Japanese people aren't into the credit-card. Almost every store you have to pay by cash. In a certain level it's so frustrated. But so far I don't have problems at all.
Of course I didn't stand still in Japan and the things what I saw so far are:
- Shinjuku (Shops, Tokyo Metropolitan Government)
- Harajuku (Meiji Jingu Temple)
- Shibayu (Scramble Crossing, shops)
- Akihabara (Electric Town)
- Akabanebashi (Tokyo Tower)
- Tsukijishijo (Fish Market)
- Tsukishima (Iron Plate dinner)
- Asakusa (Senjo-ji Temple)
- Matsushima (Bay with 250 little islands)
- Daibutsu (Great Buddha statue)
I went on my first day to Shinjuku. The station was already adventure to see all the people. It was just amazing to see
It was just a short visited because it was raining very hard. Although I was a bit lost around the area, I came by coincidence at the "red light district" of Shinjuku. People came to me and offering me girls for 4000 Yen (36 Euro) for 1h. So to everyone: I didn't do it!
My 2nd day I went to Akihabara known as Electric Town. So far what I saw was: electronics like telephones, laptops, computers and lots of games and Manga movies
After Akihabara, I went to Shinjuku again. This time the weather was good and by daylight it was good to see how Shinjuku was. I went to city center and the Tokyo Government Metropolitan. After this I took the subway. I bought a day unlimited card that cost 1000 Yen (9.07 Euro)
The first stop was Akabanebashi (Tokyo Tower). A sort of Eiffeltower in Parijs. The view was amazing to see and it gave a good view of Tokyo. Also you saw the city of Yokohama and Moutain Fuiji.
After this I went to the Tsukijishijo (Fish Market) and Tsukishima (Iron Plate dinner). If you want to visit the fish market, you have to be early in the morning. Otherwise, what happen like me it was closed already when I arrived late in the afteroon.
Tsukishima is a good spot to eat grilled meat on a iron plate. It seems one of the best spot to eat
The next stop after Tsukishima is Asakusa (Senjo-ji Temple). Lots of tourist came to see the temple. At the beginning of the gate, there is a big 700 kg lantern with the charcaters "Kaminari-mon" (Thunder Gate) This gate is a famous symbol of Asakusa.
In the evening, after I spent a lot in the subway, I went to my final stop: Harakuju. I wanted to visit the Meiji Jungi Temple, but unfortunely it was already closed. But I went to see the streets of Harakuju. There are a lot of young people coming there and what I see about fashion is hardly to describe. I have never see so much crazy fashion in my life. Some of them are nice to see, but some of them are horrible to see. But sometimes when I looked to them: Is this fashion? Is this style? It's incredible that people could wear those clothes on It doesn't matter how you look like, but it's definitely be seeing on the streets. That's 1 thing for sure
After this I went 1 station further with the JR (Japanese Railway): Shibayu. It's famous about the scramble crossing. It was nice to see how people crossing the street
Also there a lot young people and fashion is also a lot to see. But there are some nice restaurants, but people just bring cash with you, cause they don't accept credit-card
Also walking around the area of Shibayu and you'll find clubs, bars and stripclubs. Some of them aren't that bad at all
My 3rd day I went with the Shinkashen (Bullet Train) to Sendai. My stop was in Matsushima-Keigan (Bay with 250 little islands). It was one of the best spot of Japan and definitely worth it!
There was also a famous temple called Zuiganji temple. I couldn't made pictures, cause they were not allowed to do that. But what I can say is: it was very impressive
Today I went to the Daibutsu (Great Buddha statue) & Harajuku (Meiji Jingu Temple).
To get to the Daibutsu (Great Buddha statue) I went first to Yokohama City. I spent there a bit, but it was nice and they have a very big shopping mall next and into the station.
From Yokohama City, I took the train heading to Kamakura. Then changed train with a local train heading to Hase. It's about 300m walking to the Great Buddha statue.
After seeing the Great Buddha statue, I went back to Harakuju. This time I was on time to visit the Meiji Jingu Temple. It was a beautiful temple and when I came into the temple, there was a Japanese wedding ceremony.
My impression so far about Japan: it's a dynamic country and there is a lot of things to see. It's definitely a whole different culture with food, people and the system. Everyone is so polite and bow to each other. This is the respect how you will get it
Further what I still a negative point about Japan is: can't pay with credit-card, but only with cash. It's a cash culture and perhaps for the next time bring cash with you
It's also a country with a spirit of fashion design. I have seen the most crazy fashion so far. It's amazing that people could walk like that
My next stop will be Kyoto on Sunday. That's the real history culture of Japan. I'm very curious to see that.
Till the next message from Japan
