Aloha all :)
Last week I have been to Maui, Hawaii. I went just only for 2 days there, but I was pretty early in Maui. The flight from Honolulu to Kahului was just only 25 minutes. At 5:00 am, we were arrived in Kahului. We (my mother's cousin and her husband) rent a car and the first thing what we did was: Road to Hana.
It was a road with lots of curves. But the environment of the Road to Hana was amazing. I will post some pictures of the Road to Hana. I could talk about a lot of things, but pictures says enough . After the Road to Hana we went to our hotel in Kehei. It was on the west coast and it was a good hotel. Enough space and everything was good. Only the Internet doesn't work, but other facilities was outstanding
During the evening, we went to Lahaina on the west coast too. It was just like 30 min from our hotel. It's an art town with lots of art workers. Also, if you are sailing to Maui, it's a good place to park the boat there. After the sunset, we went to some restaurant. Mostly shops or restaurants are closed around 8 pm. I went to the Zushi restaurant. I came almost by closing time and what kind of surprise did I get? The lady made her last deep fried chicken with rice and miso soup for free Lucky me of course and I said: do you need money or something else? But she said: I don't want too, cause I will close the restaurant. After dinner we went back to the hotel and for the first time in probably an year I slept so early like 10 pm. I was so exhausted after a long day seeing things + flying too, that my body said: it's over now.
The next day, I was already early up and fresh, we went to the Haleakala National Park. Also, it was with lots of curves and I was bit worried about the elevation, cause when I was at Big Island last year, I became a bit dizzy when we went to the top of Mauna Kea. But we went to the top, I didn't feel dizzy at all. Probably there were a lot of trees and plants. But the view at the top of the Haleakala National Park it was amazing. The elevation was at 10.023 ft = 3055m high. From that point you can see the top of the Mauna Kea at Big Island. The distance between those tops are 160 km.
After the Haleakala National Park, we went to the Ulupalakua Ranch. It's a wineyard in Maui. For more info, check this link: http://www.mauiwine.com/history.html
I didn't know that Maui has there own wine and what I heard from my mother's cousin and her husband, the wine is excellent. I have no idea about the taste, cause I'm not drinking any alcohol. Futher we spent the last few hours on the west coast of Maui. So lots of beaches and nice resorts. Probably pretty new accomodations. It was nice to see how everything was going so relax without any stress or any other problems.
Maui gave me a good view of the island. It doesn't have much population (117.000) and it's bigger than Lanai, Kaho'olawe and Moloka'i. It has a beautiful environment, the weather is pretty nice and also the temperature. Further Maui isn't a cheap island and living or staying there is a bit more expensive then at Oahu. Of course I haven't seen everything. That will be, if I'm going back to Hawaii later on
My weekend was relaxed. I had morning breakfast at the Shortbird nearby the Hilton Village Hotel. I met finally a Trance person in Hawaii, who likes Trance music hahaha. We had a great breakfast and we walked a bit around the Waikiki Beach area. Further at Ala Moana Park they were held a soccer tournament for kids and adults. It was a bit surprised that they have soccer teams . What I saw about technical skills, it wasn't that good. But mentally they are very strong. I mean the temperature was above 86F and the way how people run, it was amazing to see. Also I talked with some locals. Those are the really locals who knows the Hawaiian lifestyle. It was very interesting about how they lived. It's very hard to survive if you have only 1 salary with several childern. Hawaii isn't a cheap state and everything is import from the mainland.
The coming few days is just a bit chilling around. So planning is surfing, seeing the Botanical Gardens and some friends in Hawaii. Probably Saturday night will be my farewell party, if everything is going by plan. In less then 5 days, my next destination will be: Japan. I'm looking forward and I'm very curious what I will see over there
I will post the pics of Maui and last thing I wanna say is: I will be back later on!
